WHAT IS AN LSV?
Frequently based on a golf cart design, and LSV is technically "a motor vehicle, that is 4-wheeled, whose speed attainable in 1 mile (1.6 km) is more than 20 miles per hour (32 kilometers per hour) and not more than 25 miles per hour (40 kilometers per hour) on a paved level surface, and whose GVWR is less than 3,000 pounds (1,361 kilograms)."
If you wish to manufacture low speed vehicles -- LSVs -- you will need to be registered and licensed with the US DOT.
Just like the federal license to manufacturer motorcycles or trailers, I can handle the process for you to build LSVs.
Generally, these LSVs are converted golf carts.
To be street legal you do need to go through this process with the USDOT and get set up to issue VIN numbers and MCOs
that are recognized by the state DMVs for street license plates.
The maximum speed must be between 20 and 25 MPH.
Each low-speed vehicle shall be equipped with:
(1) Headlamps, Front and rear turn signals, Tail lights, brake lights,
(2) Reflex Reflectors: one red on each side as far to the rear as practicable, and one red on the rear . . .
Florida and some other states also require a rear-facing slow speed vehicle orange triangle . . .
commonly available at tractor and farming supply stores.
(3) 2 MIRRORS
(4) A windshield -- either AS-1 DOT Glass or AS-5 polycarbonate.
In Florida and some other states you are also required to have a windshield wiper - this can be a simple hand-operated unit
(5) Seat belts installed at EACH designated seating position.
(6) Horn
(7) Backup camera
